I've been coaching individuals, couples and pastors now for nine years, since mostly retiring in 2014. Although my financial coaching business has been operated as a for profit organization, it has always been more of a ministry - mostly just covering business expenses. The cost of using technology (hardware and software), website fees and credit card processing fees accumulate quickly. Per God's desire for me, I am moving closer to being a ministry to groups of people, pastors and churches.
I've moved to a less expensive website, so it's not as robust as the original I used. I no longer accept online payments via debit or credit cards, just cash via Zelle®, and removed my email address from the site to cut down on spam and phishing emails.
For now, I still serve existing individual and couple clients which have a credit for coaching time. I may take on a new client, but only after I have consulted with them.
My focus going forward will include the larger topic of Godly Stewardship and less on personal investing education. I also plan to spend more time coaching and teaching groups and less time on individual coaching.
I will continue my business phone line, but will accept calls from only existing clients or potential clients that leave a message for a call back. You may still refer your family and friends to me, but I'll need to be selective to make sure that my goals and my potential clients' goals align.
I'm working toward a certification to become a Certified Church Consultant to help with accounting and business issues. For example, Pastors are treated as an employee and as an independent contractor, so Pastors have some special income tax considerations to deal with and generally need help. I do not engage in preparing tax returns but I'm available to minister churches and pastors on navigating federal income tax related issues.
God has been very generous with me providing certain skills to be used to further the Great Commission. I can't do any of this on my own, God deserves all the credit. I'm just trying to follow his calling and use the skills provided for His glory!
Although, I expect most of my clients will identify as Christians or a church for Christians, I will serve anyone that God leads to me according to His will.
Please pray for me and this ministry that God always receives the glory!
I so appreciate the support from Susan, my wife, and the many mentors I have, some personal and some through their teachings.

James is a Certified Christian Financial Counselor and a Ramsey Solutions Master Financial Coach. With his background as a former CPA, James helps individuals (including pastors), couples, small businesses and churches explore faith-based financial solutions to tackle their financial challenges. He provides valuable financial coaching by listening to and understanding their situations, offering essential education and tools, and providing encouragement to help them achieve their personal or ministry goals. Christian financial counseling encompasses topics on biblical stewardship, so some level of stewardship is discussed during each coaching session.
Depending on your personal situation, you may need just one session or several when seeking faith based financial solutions. Each full session includes a follow-up phone conversation with your financial counselor to address any outstanding issues that may need attention.
Group Christian financial coaching meetings via Zoom are coming soon. There will be no cost for these meetings. Limited to 12 participants per meeting. The current plan to to have 5-6 virtual sessions to present a variety of personal financial topics. The sessions will be free to attend, but sign-up will be required.
General questions will be answered during the event, personal consulting and questions require paid coaching time.
